What We Love To DoPet Sitting
Leaving your loved pets with someone else can be nerve wracking and we experience this first hand. This is the reason Mike and I decided to begin boarding on Rover.com. We wanted to provide the same loving home environment that we would seek for our own dogs with someone who is as attentive and caring with client dogs as they are with their own. Someone who would stay in touch with daily updates and photos to keep me at ease while away, and that is exactly what we do! We also carry additional insurance outside of Rovers policy so that in the rare case of your pet falling ill or injured, it is covered.
We have 7 dogs, various ages (3-13) and sizes (15lbs-90lbs) who are accustomed to temporary guests due the amount of fosters we have had.
Weekdays we work a day job on MCAS Cherry Point 15mins from home but dogs are never alone more than 4hrs. We start the day with morning potty, playtime and breakfast. Guest dogs are then secured to free roam in the Doggie Guest Room, there is no unsupervised interaction with resident dogs to ensure everyone??™s safety and well-being. If your dog is accustomed to a crate, we are happy to comply with either your crate or one of ours. We are back home 4 short hours later on lunch and we spend it outside letting the dogs get some fresh air and sunshine. There is no shortage of dog beds, toys and fun in our home. Weekends we are home 90% of the time. I know some people prefer a dog sitter who is home all day but there is so much fun and excitement in our home that most dogs don??™t mind the naps while the humans are gone.
Our 1/4-acre backyard is enclosed with board-on-board 6ft tall privacy fencing. There is a double gated system on both sides of the property for added safety. Although dogs are never left outdoors unsupervised, please give us a heads up if your dog is a notorious Houdini or likes to dig out to ensure we are hyper vigilant.
Our home is connected to a security system complete with cameras to check in from my phone as well as a smoke detector that will automatically call the fire dept in the rare case it would be needed. The Fire station and Craven Animal Hospital are both only ½ mile down the road. We also carry insurance through Pet Sitters Associates on top of what Rover offers so in the very rare case that your dog becomes ill or injured under our care, you know we will rush them to the Vet and it will all be covered.
Dogs are welcome to and encouraged on all furniture in our home (who doesn??™t want snuggles?!) so we ask they are on a flea preventative and flea free. If fleas are found upon a guest dog after arrival, we will inform owners that a flea bath charge will be added. Dogs may not come home as clean as you left them as our yard becomes quite saturated during rainstorms and the dogs still need to play and potty during inclimate weather. We will obviously towel them off after each romp in the rain but cannot promise they will return as clean as they arrive. We are happy to bathe, brush and blow dry (with a grooming dryer specific for dogs) your pooches the day of pickup so they are ready to go home fresh and fluffy for an additional charge.
We certainly are not a fit for every dog, but those who are altered, friendly and love pack life or who are looking to socialize a bit more, you can find no home better! We only offer boarding in our home and do not travel to clients because we do not want to take away from our time at home with own dogs. We are open to all guests and do not discriminate against any breed or size, big and small we love them all.
Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have!!
I have loved dogs my entire life and landed my first dog walking job at 8yrs old across town while growing up on Long Island, New York. I would ride my bike after school to my client??™s homes and took great pride in my work even then from Bassets to a Newfie!
In more recent years, I ran my own rescue while on Active Duty stationed in the FL Keys. During that time, I gained a great deal of experience having over 300 dogs from all different backgrounds in my care. Everything from 2 day old puppies to blind/deaf seniors and teeny tiny Chihuahuas to a Great Dane.
I also volunteered at a low cost clinic where I prepped dogs for surgery, administered vaccines and medications, implanted microchips, and supervised during post op. Additionally, I have basic Dog First-Aid and CPR. I have worked with dogs who have food aggression, who are reactive to other dogs, and dogs with no socialization among other behavioral faults. I train my personal dogs and the dogs of friends and family but hope to one day do training and boarding full time.
