About Us

Hello! My name is Cara Hammer. I've been an insured, self-employed pet care professional in Fitler Square since 2020. Between my upbringing on a farm in rural Oklahoma and my bachelor's degree in Zoology, I have a decorated lifelong history of loving animals. I'm proud to make a living doing so.

I have extensive experience caring for both domestic and exotic pets, including dogs and cats, birds, reptiles and amphibians, fish, small mammals, and insects. (I also have experience caring for agricultural animals, but unfortunately I never get to stretch those muscles in our neighborhood. Got a sheep? Reach out!!)

Each household has different needs when it comes to Pet Care solutions - some folks need a sitter staying in their home, others just need visits between one and four times a day. Some folks need a lunch time walk seven days a week, others are working flex shifts and need completely different walk schedules from one week to the next, etc. I offer complimentary meet and greets, where we will brainstorm about what you need and how I can help!

Cara is literally the best. She has been helping us with our senior cat for over 2 years when we’re away. She quite literally saved her life when we were out of the country. She took our kitty to the emergency room and brought her home after an overnight stay. Her knowledge and instincts saved my cat and her communication throughout was unmatched. We have known Cara since the summer of 2021, when we moved to Philly with our shy rescue dog, Ollie. We can't overstate how wonderful she has been with Ollie, who needs lots of TLC, and has blossomed with her. She is thoughtful, reliable and available, and cares for each dog in an individualized and tailored way. Ollie has also boarded with Cara on multiple occasions and done well (better than we had even hoped!), and we loved receiving photo updates.

We met Cara December of 2021 on the streets of Philly walking a dog. She was so warm and inviting from the moment we met her. Our family was excited for the arrival of our new puppy, Sonny and we were on the look out for a dog walker. We immediately felt comfortable with Cara. Once Sonny arrived to our house a few weeks later Cara came over to meet him and she was wondeful off the bat. Cara was so warm and loving to Sonny and most importantly she has been so reliable. Cara is extremely well organized, generous with her time and always gives us updates on his walks and or overnight stays with her while we are out of town. When we are out walking with Sonny and run into Cara, he is always happy to see her. Cara is just wonderful and we would recommend her services to any pet owner.

Cara is the definition of "dog person". My sweet Cocker Spaniel Gordie has spent many days, nights, and weeks with Cara. She treasures and loves Gordie as if he was her own - and he treasures and loves her right back. Every time we pass by her home, Gordie wiggles with anticipation to see her. Cara came recommended to me as a home boarding sitter from a trusted source and I feel so lucky to have found her. She sends consistent photos and text updates depending on your preference for frequency. She is very thoughtful and conscientious about booking dogs who are good matches should she have multiple overnight boarders. She is transparent about the dogs interactions and I love that Gordie gets so much supervised playtime with new friends. When Gordie exhibits off-behavior, like an especially gunky eye or a little limp, she swoops in with excellent communication, suggestions, and next steps. As my first and only pet, I had a lot of anxiety but that has been assuaged!

All in all, I am thankful to have found a home-away-from-home for Gordie when I have to travel. It's a vacation for him, too!

Cara is hands down the best dog walker and sitter in Philadelphia. I recommend her to every fellow pet owner I know. As an anxious attached dog owner, I feel so secure when I leave Princesa with Cara. She cares for her as if she is her own. Cara takes her on lots of long walks, sends cute photos of her cuddling, and gives her a lot of love and care. She is always so happy when she gets to be with Cara. I have been using Cara's service for over three years now, and I feel so grateful to know Princesa has got the best care in Philly. If she can't be with me, Cara is the next best person she can be with.

I would 100% recommend the dog walking service provided by Cara. From the very first interaction she was extremely accommodating and friendly. I have a dog that is extremely reluctant to warm up to new people and is now fully comfortable in the care of Cara when she walks him multiple times a week. I feel completely at ease when having my dog walked with Cara.

As the mom of a very small dog, I am anxious leaving my little guy Ollie anywhere. It's not safe for him to board in a big kennel, and if you ask him, he'd prefer to sleep on your pillow. Thankfully, we found Cara! She has a safe and loving home, she makes sure all of her canine guests are friendly and get along, and as far as Ollie knows, he's just there having a sleepover with his friends. I feel great knowing he is not only well-cared for, but is having a vacation of his own when I have to be away. I appreciate the photo updates, the attention to detail, and I love seeing Ollie get excited to arrive and see his pals - it makes me feel a lot less bad about leaving him behind!
