About Us

Specializing in multi-pet/species households and animals with behavioral and medical needs, although we accept all species and types of clients.
Hello fellow Birminghamians!
I'm Garland, owner of A Degree of Comfort, pet sitting and more. I'd like to take this moment to let you know what I do.
I offer drop-ins (min. 30 min daily visits, up to 4 times per day), house sitting, and blocks of hours (for more thorough monitoring). As a fellow pet owner with one "difficult" dog and one very spoiled princess, I know that standard boarding isn't for everyone for a variety of reasons.
Maybe you have exotics or large animals that can't be transported.
Maybe your pets have behavioral needs that you'd feel best were handled by someone with experience in animal behavior.
Maybe your pet needs fluids or other medications and you need help getting started or want a medical professional to administer and monitor your pet if you are late from work (insulin client) or out of town.
How can you get the best of both worlds where your pet sleeps on their own couch with your scent all over it, no matter how long you're gone, and still feel confident that your pet is in qualified hands?
That's where we come in.
I've got goats and canaries, geckos and anoles as clients. I handled animals of all sizes in my 15 years in general, specialty, and emergency medicine. I was employed a veterinary technician, licensed through the Alabama State Board of Vet Med, have a degree in veterinary technology (animal medicine), and participate in continuing education every year. When I was responsible for the health of the animals in a local animal control facility, I handled scared, timid, and aggressive animals. Not to mention, my own personal dog almost failed out of rescue due to behavioral issues! I require meet and greet before accepting any jobs, to ensure you and your pet feel comfortable with me. I have been providing this type of professional pet sitting service in Jefferson County (and some surrounding areas) for 3+ years and am more than happy to provide references.
Whether you want your pet to go for a jog with us and their favorite toy 3 times a week or want to make sure they have someone to snuggle at night, we could be a match for your needs.
